Massage and a 1/2 Marathon

When Tre and I ran the 10k Super Run, we bought a package of 6, 60 min massages from one of the vendors set up at the end of the race. This past Saturday we cashed in 2 of them. We each got a massage in the comfort of our apartment. It was awesome!

Per our training schedule, we were supposed to run 13 miles on Saturday, April 24th and since there happened to be a ½ Marathon on Sunday, April 25th, I thought it would be nice to do our weekly “long” run with 1000’s of other people.

We ran well, but unfortunately, our overall experience wasn’t that good…

The course was great. It was challenging with an assortment of hills and wonderful views. The weather could not have been more perfect. It was overcast and cool. Everything else had serious room for improvement.

There weren’t enough bathrooms at the start, they didn’t have t-shirts in L or XL, but you could get one of last year’s in L or XL (what??!), there wasn’t any food at the end except oranges and bananas (there are usually a handful of food vendors or at least some bagels or muffins since the body is completely starved for carbohydrates), we had to wait 40 minutes in the cool, ocean air to get on a bus and another hour to get from La Jolla to Del Mar where our car was parked (and with basically no food, we were in pretty rough shape by the time we got to the car…not to mention chilled to the bone).

Tre said that after we run the Rock and Roll Marathon, he can’t see himself doing another organized run. Between this disappointment and a similar one with the Silver Strand ½ Marathon, I can’t blame him. I had heard such great things about the La Jolla ½, that I just couldn’t believe how disappointing it was. We’re both hoping the Rock and Roll will be a much better experience.
